With a large number of new staff, Deutsche Bank needed a quick and effective way to get new starters up and running on their desktops and mobiles to alleviate some of the pressures put on IT departments.

New Starters IT Startup Manual

Business need

Deutsche Bank had a large number of new starters globally each week but its IT departments were struggling to cope with the ‘onboarding’ process of a new starter in person.

My Role

My task was to create an easy to use step-by-step process for new starters that took approx. 1.5 hours to complete. I created an interface that turned their usual setup process on its head and looked at it purely through the eyes of the user.

I was responsible for the following:

  • Identifying all the needs of a new starter and grouping them into easily digestible sections that made sense to a new starter

  • Writing copy for each step in the setting up of email, software installs, server connections, printers etc.

  • Creating connections to a pre-existing Deutsche Bank community

  • Designing an interface that put the user in control and had a feel good element to it and sense of achievement at each stage

  • Designed in such a way that the user could stop for a coffee in the process; any questions that they might have could be answered by a new colleague sitting close by, which in turn promoted communication within the team.
